Accommodations for Traveling with Families

Chamonix, France
Chamonix, France

Here we are in one of the most picturesque places in the world. However, I am reminded of the importance of the right accommodations when traveling with a family. We are at a very nice hotel right at the base of the mountain with ski-in, ski-out access. Who could ask for more?

Hotels are not the ideal accommodations for families. I learned this lesson long ago when my children were small. They are teenagers now and I thought a hotel should be fine. However, there are several reasons hotels are not ideal for families with any age kids.

The rooms are small. The beds take up most of the room so there is no room to spread out especially if you consider the floor space after the clothes strewn all over the floor.

You have to go out for every meal. This is both a hassle and expensive. This gets tiring after several days and I am stuffed to the gills. It is also hard on the budget.

There is no family room. It is fun to bond on vacation playing games, reading, watching a movie or whatever. When you are in rooms on different floors in a hotel there is no space for any of this.

I am not complaining about a wonderful trip to the alps. I am just suggesting that a condo or house works better for families. This is one of the advantages of traveling with our company, The Family Odyssey. We find great old estates where kids can roam around, spread out, play a game of pool, go for a swim and so on. We provide chefs at home for half the meals and then go out to taste the local cuisine for the other half.
