I will admit, it is a little hard to get into the spirit of the holidays when it is 50 degrees out. No matter how many Christmas carols I hear, or Christmas parties I go to, it’s not “beginning to look a lot like Christmas” until it snows.
I do find it interesting to see how different countries celebrate Christmas. I also love the names for Santa, from Pere’ Noel in Belgium, to Weihnachtsmann (“Christmas Man”) in Germany, to Ded Moroz (“Grandfather Frost”) in Russia. Santa also looks slightly different in each country, but I think he is fattest in America.
There are also different ways to celebrate other religious holidays all over the world, like Hanukkah or Kwanza. Wouldn’t it be interesting to learn about those customs and traditions as well?
I hope you are all going to interesting places this Holiday Season, where your kids can experience all the new places and holiday customs along with the different cultures in other countries, or even just parts of the United States. My family is headed to the Southwest to experience life in the dessert with some hiking, golf and relaxation.
This concept of traveling is a new trend I have noticed, and not just the traditional holiday excursion to Gramma’s and Grampa’s. Instead, in lieu of gifts, many families are now giving their kids a holiday trip. They all get to experience so much, and it is something they will always remember. From African Safaris to tours of Europe or South America, it is always interesting and a great family experience.
The Family Odyssey not only offers escorted trips, we can also plan these kinds of private holiday trips for your family or friends, as well as large customized family trips, like family reunions, or organized trips for anything from small businesses to large corporations. We already have many escorted trips planned for 2015 and 2016.
Our upcoming escorted trips for 2015 include: Ireland: Father-Son Golf Trip – May 23-30, 2015; Britain: Wimbledon, London & The English Countryside – July 1 – July 10, 2015; Italy: Rome, Amalfi Coast & Sailing the Mediterranean – August 1-9, 2015; France: Couples Bike Trip – October 9-16, 2015.
