Spark Your Holiday Spirit With a Visit to London & Paris

Happy New Year!

Before Christmas I took my 19-year-old daughter to London and Paris and it was simply spectacular. She had been before, but it had been a very long time. I thought I would share with you some of the highlights and my recommendations.

Accommodations:

We stayed at the Rosewood Hotel in London and the Raphael in Paris. Both are luxury hotels with a sitting area with a TV, nice for relaxing after a long day of sightseeing. The Rosewood is a totally renovated sleek looking hotel in a beautiful old building with a courtyard. It features 2 restaurants which serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and tea. It was in Covent Garden with close access to shops, restaurants and theater.

The Raphael in Paris was very French with antiques and Louis XIV-ish gold accents. It is a boutique hotel with a bar and a dining room for breakfast. The living room area in our room was enormous and then we had 2 additional bedrooms. It was a suite fit for a King. The hotel is located near the Arch de Triomphe and the Champs Elysees. It was convenient to the Metro and shopping, restaurants and so forth.

Sights to See & Things to Do:

Both cities have more than I could mention in this article, but some of the highlights of our trip included:

London

  • Tea at the Savoy
  • Theater – Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime and Lion King
  • Hampton Court
  • National Gallery & Portrait Gallery
  • Tower of London
  • Crowned Jewels
  • Shopping on Oxford and Bond streets

Paris

  • Food tour in Montmartre area with stops in best cheese, bread, chocolate, macaroon and shops
  • Eiffel tower at night
  • Versailles including golf cart ride of the grounds
  • Louis Vuitton museum with special exhibit of impressionist paintings from Hermitage
  • Shopping
  • Dinner at Chez George

Both cities sparkled in Christmas lights and were relatively uncrowded. They certainly put us in the holiday spirit and you should definitely consider this trip for off-season travel.

Bon Voyage!
